In this video, Lucas Viet, CIO of the Coop Group in Switzerland, discusses their technology partnership with Google Cloud and SAP. With over 1,000 shops, Coop is leveraging cloud and AI technologies to enhance sustainability, reduce food waste, and support mission-critical solutions.
Key Highlights:
- Predictive AI for Sustainability: Coop's AI team shifted data from SAP to BigQuery and uses Vertex AutoML to forecast fruit and vegetable orders, aiming to reduce food waste.
- Massive SAP Migration: Through the RISE project with SAP and Google, Coop migrated a 34-system landscape—comprising nearly 140 systems—from their own data center to the Google Cloud in Belgium.
- High-Performance Architecture: The company utilizes a 16-terabyte X4 machine architecture to power their largest systems, resulting in excellent performance.
- Scalable Microservices: Coop relies on Google Cloud Kubernetes to seamlessly scale the 50 microservices behind their Supercard loyalty mobile app, ensuring almost no outages during peak times.
- Rapid Delivery: A major HANA enterprise cloud migration involving over 40 productive solutions was completed in just two and a half years, finishing by late 2024 and early 2025.
