Are we planning the future of ELT from the wrong viewpoint? One of the standout moments in our ELT Leadership Forum panel discussion came from Geoff Stead. He challenged us to stop imagining the future of English language teaching from where we stand today, with today’s exams, today’s classrooms, and today’s publishing models. Instead, he asked us to step into the lives our learners will be living in their mid‑20s. What jobs will they do? What skills will they need? What kind of world will they be using English in? Because if we start from their future, not our present, the way we design learning begins to look very different.
