Free, Claude Code plus Hermes is insane. What if your AI agent never forgot a single thing you told it? Not today, not next week, not ever. Most people are still copying and pasting into a chatbot and they have no clue this even exists. There's a free tool that makes that old way look ancient. Let me show you why everyone's about to be talking about it. Hey, I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie. My whole job is helping you learn and actually use AI tools in your real work, not just play with them for fun. Today, I want to show you something that honestly blew me away. It's called Hermes. And when you pair it with Claude, things get a little wild. Stick with me all the way through because near the end I'll show you the one setting that makes this whole thing feel like magic and almost everyone misses it. So, let me back up. What even is Hermes? Hermes is a free, open-source AI agent built by a team called Nous Research. And the tagline they gave it says it all. They call it the agent that grows with you. Here's what that means in plain English. Most AI tools forget everything the second you close the tab. You walk back in the next day and you're starting from zero all over again. Hermes does the opposite. It has a built-in learning loop. It remembers your past conversations. It searches back through them on its own when it needs to. It even builds little skills from things it's done before, so it actually gets better the more you use it. And the best part? It doesn't live trapped on your laptop. You can run it on a tiny server and then talk to it from Telegram, Discord, Slack, even WhatsApp. So, you can message your agent from your phone while it keeps working in the background. That is not normal. That is the kind of thing that felt like science fiction a year ago. Now, here's where Claude comes in. Think of Hermes as the body. It's the thing that runs everywhere and remembers everything. But, a body needs a brain and the cool part is you get to pick the brain. You can point Hermes to all kinds of models and one of the strongest ones you can plug in is Claude from Anthropic. Claude is incredible at the heavy thinking, the writing, the planning, and especially the coding. That's the same engine behind Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic coding tool. With Claude Code, you describe what you want in plain words and it reads your files, makes the changes, runs the tests, and hands you back working code. You don't have to be an engineer. If you can describe it, you can build it. Now, picture that kind of brain sitting inside an agent that never forgets and runs anywhere. You can even run Hermes right inside your code editor like VS Code using a simple plugin called ACP. That's the combo I want you to see. Okay, let me show you what I actually do with this for the AI Profit Boardroom because that's where it gets real for me. The first thing I did was point Hermes at Claude and have it build out a full week of content designed to pull more of the right people into the AI Profit Boardroom. I gave it a list of topics AI Profit Boardroom members keep asking me about and it drafted the scripts, the hooks, and the captions all in one go. Then I set Hermes up so I could message it straight from Telegram on my phone. I used that to map out the entire onboarding flow new AI Profit Boardroom members walk through on day one. The welcome messages, the first call prep, the resource walk through, all from one prompt while I was nowhere near my desk. And because Claude is so strong at coding, I ran Hermes inside my editor to build a simple resource hub for the AI Profit Boardroom. I just described what I wanted and it built the pages so AI Profit Boardroom members can find every tutorial in one clean place. Now, let me explain why this feels so different because this is the part most people don't get. With a normal AI chat, you are the memory. You have to re-explain your project every single time. You paste the same background in again and again and again. Hermes flips that completely. It keeps an ongoing picture of what you're working on. It nudges itself to save the important stuff. And when you come back days later, it already knows where you left off. Think about how much time that saves. No more re-explaining, no more lost context. You just pick the conversation back up like you never left. Comes with more than 40 built-in tools. It can read and write files, run commands, search the web, work with your code, and connect to other services you already use. And it can schedule things for you. There's a built-in scheduler so you can tell it to run a task every morning or every night all in plain language. It just runs on its own and sends you the result wherever you want it. It can even take one big job, split it into smaller pieces, and run them at the same time using something called sub-agents. So, instead of waiting on one slow task to finish, it works on several at once. Here's the other thing I love. Because Hermes runs as its own background process, it stays alive even when you close your editor. Your agent keeps its memory, its tools, and all its connections, no matter where you talk to it. Open it on your laptop, message it from your phone, it's the same agent with the same memory every single time. A normal coding tool is tied to one window on one machine. Hermes isn't. It follows you around. And remember, the core agent is free and open source, so you're not locked into one company. You can swap the brain whenever you want and keep full control. Now, let me show you a few more things that make this feel almost unfair, because I don't think enough people talk about them. The first one I use all the time is voice. You can send Hermes a voice memo, and it transcribes exactly what you said, and get straight to work on it. So, I can be away from my desk, just talking to my phone, and the agent picks it up and starts moving. And because your conversation carries across every platform, you can start a thought on your laptop and pick it back up later from your phone without ever losing the thread. It all stays connected. The next one is personality. With a single command, you can set the tone and the way Hermes talks back to you. So, instead of a stiff, robotic assistant, it feels more like a teammate who actually gets how you like to work. That sounds like a small thing, but it changes how often you reach for it. The part that really opens the whole thing up. Hermes can connect to other tools through something called MCP. In plain English, that just means you can hook it up to the apps and services you already use every day. So, your agent isn't trapped in its own little box. It can reach out and actually work with the things you work with. And on top of all that, you can give it context files. These are simple notes about your project that quietly shape every single conversation. So, you stop repeating your setup, your goals, and your style over and over. Hermes just knows them from the start, and everything it does lines up with what you're building. Now, if you're watching this thinking, "Okay, I want to set this up, but I really don't want to mess it up." That's exactly why we built this whole thing out inside the AI Profit Boardroom. Inside the AI Profit Boardroom, I put together step-by-step Hermes and Claude walkthroughs that show you the exact setup, screen by screen, so you're not guessing. We run live coaching calls where you can show up, share your screen, and ask me questions about your own Hermes setup in real time. We map out exactly how to get your agent running, connected, and actually useful, not just installed and forgotten. And you get the same prompts and skill setups I use myself, so you're never staring at a blank page. You can grab the full zip file inside the Agent OS, ready to install, and we built out a complete 30-day roadmap there as use cases. If getting this working is the reason you're here, the AI Profit Boardroom was built for exactly this. All right, let me show you that one setting I teased at the very start. When you first run Hermes, it's going to ask you to pick your model. Most people rush right past this. Please don't. This is where you choose your brain. Pick a strong model like Claude here, and suddenly the whole agent gets smarter, the planning gets sharper, the code comes out cleaner, the writing gets better, and you can switch it anytime with one simple command, so you're never stuck. If a better model drops next week, you just point Hermes at it and keep going. And here's my big tip, turn on the memory features early. The sooner Hermes starts learning your project, the more useful it gets over time. The people who skip this step never see the real magic, and then they wonder why their agent feels forgetful. Getting started is simple, too. There's a one-line install for Mac, Windows, and Linux. You run it, you pick your model, and you're chatting in a couple of minutes. And here's a nice touch if you've used something like this before. If you're coming over from an older tool called Openclaw, Hermes can import everything for you automatically. Your settings, your memories, your skills, even your keys, all carried over in one step, so you're not starting from scratch. The setup wizard actually checks for it and offers to bring it all across before you even begin. So, whether you're brand new or switching over, you're up and running fast with everything you already had still right there. So, here's what I want you to do next.
