we've talked about strategy in departmental goals so now let's talk about taking those goals down to the employee level in order for departments to accomplish their goals the accountability for achieving those goals needs to be assigned to a specific employee or volunteer this is done by determining what steps need to be taken and who should do them these goals should line up with departmental goals this goal document is helpful during the annual performance appraisal process because it measures whether the employee was able to accomplish these goals let's look at one of the previous departmental goals and break it down into steps and create an employee goal as you will notice the objective goal for Stacy is taken from the action steps in the volunteer departmental goal this allows Kathy Thompson volunteer manager to assign responsibility to Stacy Jones administrative assistant for accomplishing this goal employee --gel organize volunteer fair steps one scheduled date on church calendar to advertise fair in church bulletin website and announcement 3 recruit representatives to answer questions the day of the fair 4 gather volunteer information recruitment material 5 develop plan for booths design and layout 6 set up their booths 7 participate in fair now assign responsibilities to an employee Stacy Jones is responsible for all these steps next assign due dates here's a tip when assigning due dates ask the employee when a reasonable time would be for completing the goal when you engage the employee in that decision it removes any excuses for not completing goals it could be related to due dates the status update column is to monitor progress of goal completion as you will notice Stacy takes the objective goal from the action steps in the volunteer departmental goal this allows Kathy Thompson to assign responsibility to Stacy Jones for accomplishing this goal this document is used when Stacy receives her review at her annual performance appraisal managers use the goal document as a guide throughout the year to reinforce deadlines outlined in the worksheet in addition managers incorporate employee goals into the performance appraisal process a Church's ability to write an accomplished organizational goals is critical to implementing a strategic plan and ultimately achieving ministry objectives
