Digitizing Forests for Sustainability Efforts
About this lesson
This project demonstrates the Orbis Mobile Laser Scanner used for forest inventory on the Finnish west coast. A 1,300-meter forest plot was scanned in under 30 minutes, capturing over 403 million points with dense coverage of tree trunks and canopy. The data was processed using @Terrasolid software to classify ground and vegetation, identify individual trees, and automatically measure trunk diameters. The result is accurate, efficient forest data ready for inventory, analysis, and management decisions — all captured with a portable mobile scanning solution designed for real-world field conditions. Orbis™ + Terrasolid deliver smarter, faster, and more reliable forestry workflows.
