Key Takeaways

Databricks acquires MosaicML, a leading generative AI platform, for $1.3 billion to democratize AI and integrate MosaicML's models into their lake house platform, enabling organizations to build and fine-tune their own models in a secure way. The acquisition validates the market for open-source AI models and platforms, with MosaicML's Apache 2.0 license allowing for commercial use.

Mosaic Campbell the company that has released all these famous MPT models that we have been discussing about is being acquired by data bricks I mean will you believe it or not databricks is agreed to acquire Mosaic ml for 1.3 billion dollars it's 1.3 billion US Dollars it's a huge amount it's a huge win for companies that build open source models in fact a lot of people have been wondering hey this Mosaic email has been releasing all these models MPT 7 billion MPT 30 billion what is the way they're going to make money and in the previous video I had mentioned that they also have their own inference system so you can just go host the models they've got you know inference API available which is cheaper than open a so now today databricks has decided to acquire this model uh acquire Mosaic so that means all these model developments that that we have seen before I'm not sure how that is going to go ahead but at least Mosaic ml is going to find a new home of databricks and databricks is trying to aim at um as everybody says democratizing AI using Mosaic ml under their models the good thing for Mosaic Amal would be the distribution platform the data bricks has got in the Enterprise space so the co-founder and CEO of databricks Ali gosti has said every organization should be able to benefit from the AI Revolution with more control over how their data is used data bricks and Mosaic ml have an incredible opportunity to democratize Ai and make the lake house the best place to build Ai and llms generative Ai and llms so this almost seems like the thing that Nvidia has been drawing with bigger machines so all these companies are trying to do one thing do not pay for open AI APA rather build your own or fine tune your own model and it seems like Mosaic ml will be deeply integrated into the databricks lake house that means data bricks would want every organization to use Mosaic ml because their latest model in fact is an Apache 2.0 license which means anybody can use it for commercial purpose so it seems like data bricks would encourage every single Enterprise that uses data bricks to build their own models and offer it to their like within the company I think it's going to be a huge win for data bricks and also it's going to be a huge win for data uh Mosaic camel I'm just wondering like what would it mean for the open source community and the open source um enthusiasts like us who have been benefiting from Mosaic but having said that um I'm completely 100 happy for the Mosaic team and mosaicamal team has put out an interesting blog post and thanked their investors but honestly like I I to be honest like I am happy that the open source companies built on open source foundations building models and releasing models with Apache 2.0 license can sustain and they're being valued by big companies is a huge sign in the market to build more and more open source models and also release it for a public had previously raised 64 million dollars like that's what they had rise and to get acquired for 1.3 billion dollars like a huge validation at this market like I've been um I've been seeing a lot of investments in the vector DB data Victor database space and I I've I've always struggled to understand how these things matter um Vector database of course matters but how much these things can help those VCS get their money back but in terms of Mosaic ml I'm 100 confident workers they've got really good models they've got the platform they've got the architecture and they've got the talent and it's a it's a very lethal combination and that's not available quite um available easily if you see other than open AI you have got uh you've got Co here and then you've got a mosaic and then there are a lot of hobbies trying to build models and there are government-funded organizations like Falcon um the comp the organization that build Falcon so it's a very Niche space and data brick seems to have tapped into the right space to acquire a company that can give them a huge benefit and the lake house platform that they've got a huge benefit in terms of letting organizations build fine tune their own models in the secure way seems like this is a pitch that data bricks wants to have let us see how it goes and uh I'm happy for the Mosaic team and also seems like a great investment from the databrick side let me know in the comment section what you feel about it otherwise see you in another video
