Builds interactive lessons with Edcafe AI and ClassPoint

What if AI didn't just help you plan a lesson, but it also handled the interactive questions and showed you where students were struggling during class? [music] That is what I'm going to show you how to build in this video. One complete lesson from scratch starting with the prep work. We're going to build a slide deck to present with, then flashcards to give to students so that they can review after class, and then an assignment for them to work on. Then the in-class interaction. We'll present to students using the slide deck that we created, get their feedback throughout class, and then get a quick summary of the how they did during class. So, that is that last piece, that [music] performance summary. So, after class, we can review the assignment, the submissions, the feedback, and even the flashcard details. So, to create and present this content, we're going to be using two different tools. One, [music] EdCafe AI, a free teaching website for teachers, and then two, ClassPoint, a free interactive PowerPoint add-in. I won't go too in-depth on every feature of these two tools. This is just a workflow overview. But, if you want to learn more about making most of both of these tools and all the features that you're going to see, check out the videos linked down in the description and throughout the video as we go through. First, we'll create our lesson slides to share the information with our students. >> [music] >> So, we're going to create a free account at EdCafe AI. Um you can use edcafe.ai to create your free account, and once you're logged in and inside, we'll click create new, and then we'll click on slide deck. From here, you can create a presentation based on any topic, text, web page, or even a file that you have. So, today our lesson will be based on literary elements. >> [music] >> And then, we can go ahead and add in any additional instructions. So, this is information that we want to incorporate into the slide deck. So, today we'll want this to be for grade seven, intro to topic, include the interactive questions in a variety of different formats. [music] So, then we can select a number of slides, your output language, and if you want a quick theme, you can select that, too, and then click generate. [music] And within just a couple of seconds, I Cafe AI will generate a full structured presentation for you. We will be able to see our title slide. We even have images that are added along with all the different content. So, here you can edit and adjust any of your content. You can change up your images using Google AI or one from your device already. Um you can even add in any additional slides as well, or rearrange um that layout or regenerate that slide. So, once all the editing is done, we can go ahead and give this save. And this will save inside of our I Cafe AI library. From here, we can export it as a Microsoft PowerPoint so you can go ahead and use it later to present to our students. So, that's the file that we're going to use for everything else in this video. [music] So, the slides are kind of our main starting point, and they're all ready to go. So, let's go ahead and keep building some other material. Our next step is to generate some flashcards. So, we're going to generate these, set these up before class, and then after class, we can share them with our students. So, I'll touch more about that sharing part later, but first, let's just get into creating the flashcards. [music] So, again, inside of I Cafe AI, we'll go ahead and click on flashcards, >> [music] >> and you'll be able to, again, create based on a topic, your text, web page, or a file. So, we can use that same topic, literary elements, here, or we can also drop in our PowerPoint file that we've already created. From there, you can select a different template. [music] We'll just keep term and definition, and then you can fully customize what is on the front [music] and what's on the back of the cards. Then you can select what number of cards you would like, and then if you want any images. From there, we can generate and we'll be able to see that EdCafé has pulled all the key terms and concepts from our literary elements topic and turn them into these ready-made set of interactive flash cards. So again, we'll give these a save, and then I'll come back to them to show you guys how to share them with students and what kind of data you can get once students are interacting and using these flash cards. >> [music] >> And the last thing I'm using AI to help with to set up before class is an assignment grader. So this is how students will submit their work and get that AI feedback immediately. So no having to wait for me to grade to understand how they're doing on that specific topic. So let's go into the create new. This time we'll click assignment grader, and here we need to add in our assignment details. So these are This is just instructions for the assignment, so students know what to do. And then our next piece is adding in that grading instruction. So from here >> [music] >> we can do something like check for understanding of the plot structure, the setting, and the conflict, all relating back to our literary elements topic, and have students provide specific feedback [music] on We want the Excuse me, the AI to provide specific feedback on what the student understood well, [music] what needs a little bit more work, and mention if they've used examples from the story to corroborate what they're trying to say. So again, you can add in any other like links or images in the assignment details if needed to further explain to students what is expected. And then you can also add in a rubric or something to have the AI refer to as well if you have that on file. So that can just be uploaded from your device and then dropped in, and the AI can refer to that rubric when grading your students. So once that's all set up, let's go ahead and create that grader, give it a quick save, [music] and then it will create a shareable link for us in this assign key to share it with students. So, the assignment's all ready to go, and we'll talk about getting students to submit their work after class. [music] But otherwise, everything else is set up for our before class prep. Our slides are ready, our flashcards are staged for later, and our assignment grader is all set up and ready to go. So now, let's go ahead and jump into the teaching portion. All right, now for part two, during class. [music] We've now created an interactive lesson, let's present. So first, we have to open up our PowerPoint file. So this is the one that I've created inside of EdCafe AI. You guys can change up the images and things like that, but we can see that we have all of our slide information, and we have those interactive questions that we asked for in those additional instructions [music] when we um created this inside of EdCafe. So to make this interactive during our presentation, we now need to add in our interactive question buttons. So that way we can get responses like this from all of our students all at once. So inside of PowerPoint, I have the Ink no ClassPoint tab here. If you guys don't have this, download ClassPoint for free at classpoint.io. You can get signed up and download and install. So it is free, so you can get started there. So the next step then is matching our interactive question to the question that's on our slide. So here we have a multiple-choice question, so I'll just select multiple-choice. I can move this button around. We already have four choices selected for A, B, C, D, and then we can select our correct answer if there is one. Next, let's review some of the other questions that we have throughout our slide. So EdCafe just put these three at the end of our presentation, but you guys can always move these around, ask questions throughout the presentation that way students are paying attention and getting engaged throughout the entire time. So here we have a fill-in-the-blanks question. [music] So we'll submit this, put the fill-in-the-blanks option so that students can fill out what completes this sentence. So here we just have one blank and we do have a correct answer of a motif. So you can type that in as well. So ClassPoint will actually auto grade this for you so you don't have to worry about it as well, making it a little bit quicker and nicer for you, too. So we do have Oh, here it is. That last question, we have a short answer. [music] So again, we can select our ClassPoint button, put that on slide, and if you want to allow multiple submissions or hide participant names, you're also more than welcome to do that. That way students have a little bit more freedom in their responses. So now that the setup is done, let's go into our PowerPoint presentation mode. I'll start with our first question here and you'll see that the ClassPoint toolbar at the bottom of the screen and we have a class code here at the top. So that's how students will join in. You can click on that, students can scan the QR code, or go to the website classpoint.app, type in the class code and their name to get started. So no app to download for them, using any browser, any device, and they don't need any login info. So when we get to a slide with a question on it, we can select that button and then we'll be able to watch as our student responses appear live on screen. So from here I can instantly see which students have understood the question and which students might need a little bit more help. So with multiple choice, it's a little bit more of a general, however, you can click into the bar graph to see who has submitted which answer. But let me show you guys what these other two question types look [music] like. So here we have our short answer question. We'll be able to get those true and false statements from students that you can review as well. So, once all those submissions are in, you can award stars to everyone for participating or clicking in and awarding stars for any submissions that you think are really thoughtful or well-described. And then last we have our fill-in-the-blanks here just so I can show you guys what all these different question types look like, but here we have some different responses from our students as well. So, throughout the presentation you can award stars to students when they get answers correct or for answering questions and different things like that. So, you can also show the leaderboard. This will update in real-time and you can pull it up at any point to show students the class ranking for every time you've used that class session or just for that day specific session. So, this might sound small, but it really keeps the energy up across your whole lesson, not just during a single activity. [music] And the last piece that I want to mention to you guys is maybe you forgot to add a question for a slide or you need to check on students' understanding, you know, right on the spot. ClassPoint actually has an AI quiz generator uh located right here on the toolbar. >> [music] >> So, what this will do is if we go to one of our informational slides here, ClassPoint AI will actually analyze that slide and generate a question based on that information. So, let's check it out. If I just go ahead, I can see my options. You can select a specific question type or specific level of Bloom's taxonomy. Then you can generate the question and ClassPoint AI will analyze that slide and generate a question based on that information. [music] Then you can check the answer. You can save it as a slide in your presentation and it's right there for you. So, there's no need to leave your ClassPoint presentation mode. So, that's all I have for during your presentation. So, we've now prepped our class, we've presented. Now, let's go part three, which will be closing the loop and using the rest of the material for after class. So, now that the lesson is done, we can start getting that performance summary, then moving into feedback on how students do after class. So, right away after the lesson, ClassPoint will automatically send an AI-generated session summary to your email. Or, you can also view this online by clicking on this reports icon here. This will [music] take you to the ClassPoint web app, and you can click into that class, and this will show again that written overview of your student performance, that quick AI summary, and then all of your activity responses are here, as well. [music] ClassPoint also has an AI insights button, so that way you can get some more specific information just on that specific question type for those short answer questions. So, you can continue to chat with that, but now just instead of knowing that lesson felt fine, I think the students were paying attention, you will have actual data on where students might have gotten stuck throughout these questions and how well they participated [music] throughout the session. Now, let's review our student assignment details. So, back inside of EdCafe AI, let's go ahead and share the assignment grader with our students. So, our first step is to click that assign key. Students can scan the QR code, or you can copy this link and share it with students. Then, they'll be able to go ahead and submit their results. So, from here, they'll be able to see the assignment details, then they can add in any text that they would like. Um, so if they have just wrote out their specific story for this example, or they can always upload a file here, as well. So, let's stick with the text. They can also type in their name. Then, they can generate their AI feedback. So, the AI will read their submission against the grading instructions or the rubric that you gave at Cafe. Then it will generate some personalized feedback. So here we have some general feedback for them and this isn't specifically a grade. It's specific feedback on what they understood, what might need more help or detail without having to wait multiple days to get their essay back. >> [music] >> Now back inside of our teacher view, we also have a little bit of a dashboard here. So here you can see how many submissions have submitted. If we click on this report, you're also able to get that list of all the students submissions. >> [music] >> You can click in and you can review the student submission here and see their feedback. So here you get that full view of how your class did, where they're standing with the lesson, all before you prep another lesson or again have to grade so many different papers. [music] And last, remember the flashcards that we generated before class? Now is when you want to share them with your students. So back in EdCafe AI, we can click on home and we can see our latest recent content was those flashcards. So now that those are opened up, we can share in the same way as that grader. You can assign, copy the link and students can open this up any browser, any device that is no issue. So students can shuffle the cards and then they can also add in their name. So and then they can begin studying. So here they can take their time, go at their own pace, review the front and the back, mark them if they're still learning or if they know the card, and see the term and the definition on each side. So after they review these cards, they'll get just a quick little summary of their session and review the cards as well. And then back on your teacher dashboard as well, you'll get some data on the students results here, too. So you can see how long they were studying for and kind of their percentage score based on how many cards that they marked as still learning or which ones they already knew. So, based on that session summary that you got from ClassPoint, you know, let's say students were really struggling with conflict or characterization questions that you had in your lesson specifically, you can point them to direct cards in that flashcard set. So, in that way they can review those before the next class. So, the AI kind of already did all the work for you in creating those things. You're just deploying them all at the right moment. That's it. We hit all three parts of creating a full [music] interactive lesson with AI. Prep work, in-class interaction, and the performance summary. AI Cafe [music] AI built the slides, flashcards, and the assignment just a couple of minutes. Then, ClassPoint got us interact with our students [music] instead of just speaking at them. Then, we use a combination of both to get more feedback [music] and review how they did those results for students during class. Both AI Cafe and ClassPoint are free to use and get started. They have a forever free plan. I'll link them down below. You guys can go ahead and get [music] started. Subscribe to the ClassPoint channel for more information on using AI in your classroom, different EdTech tips [music] and tricks. And turn on those notifications. That way you don't miss any of the next upcoming videos. Thank you all for watching. >> [music] [music]
