Building Hotel Perle | EP 2
About this lesson
Building Hotel Perle | ep 02 This series tells the story behind the concept, design, and development of the Hotel Perle New episodes every Monday at 6pm EST — When you're building a hotel, there are a million directions you could go... Aesthetic references, materials, comparable, guest types, price points, personal preferences. To make anything cohesive, you have to structure the chaos. My approach is built around a four-pillar framework: → History → Experience → Comparable → Financial Each one forces the concept to stay grounded in something real — what the property is, where it’s located, who it’s for, and what it needs to be. For Hotel Perle, those pillars gave us these through-lines: We pulled brass and walnut from the original building (History), used the green and maroon of the old streetcars (History + Experience), and incorporated lush greenery into material palette and a lighter green into the colors (Experience + Comparable). Other colors like cream and navy blue were brought in based off early material ideas, and to balance out the color palette. Every material, color, and finish had a reason to be there. That overlap is where the concept starts to hold. This isn’t just for quick, early brand and design directions, it is a system for decisions that feel like they belong together. And the system evolves over time as new inspiration is found and added, and earlier directions that are no longer working get dropped. But the purpose of the system remains the same throughout the process. That’s how we built Hotel Perle. Not by picking a style— by building a frame and fleshing it out until takeaways started to form a coherent system. #HotelPerle #ConceptDevelopment #CreativeDirection #HospitalityDesign #DesignProcess #StoryDrivenDesign #BehindTheBuild #NewOrleansHotels
