My thoughts on Shopify's latest features, including a new set of free themes which will replace Dawn, global theme blocks now fully in action, and AI-generated blocks - good enough to replace pagebuilders and developers? While it may seem like there are ten new themes, they are essentially presets of the Horizon theme with different settings applied. The underlying code remains the same, making them variations rather than entirely new themes. What’s New in Horizon? Horizon's biggest feature is the use of “theme blocks,” which allow for multiple levels of nested blocks (up to 8 levels deep) and allow you to use any block virtually anywhere across the site. AI Block Generator You can now create custom blocks using prompts! It creates a custom section for you with settings you can customize. It still has some issues and probably isn't good enough to publish on large sites without the guidance of a human developer. Should You Update from Dawn to Horizon? It’s best to wait 1-2 months before transitioning from Dawn to Horizon to allow time for any initial bugs to be addressed.
