yeah here we have a lot of interesting question what is it are cooled how to deal with burnout as I was talking about my main focus has been a lot about being on the positive side of psychology like making sure that you never get into burnout because your workplace is so well-functioning but sometimes it can be hard to convince our company or workplace to actually work on that mental psychological toothpaste toothbrush or go to the psychological gym and not wear the other burnout because we know that we will have burnout psychological flossing must be exactly brushing that it's flossing they probably made the flossing but to say something about dealing with burnout I would say that a common metaphor is a medical metaphor so it can easily feel like I've gotten a disease mm-hmm how do I get rid of rid of a disease well I stopped working I stay at home and you can feel this also in like depression or or stuff like that mom something feels bad how do I deal with this well I have to rest now the tricky part here is that psychological problems are not like other medical problems you can arrest them away necessarily exactly and we've talked a lot about feedback and her feedback comes from other humans and let's say depression for instance depression I think is easier to think in context and depression do you mean by what do I mean in commerce and depression can be viewed as deprivation of the positive consequences that you get in your life for instance if you get depressed when you're in current you know you're working from home why is that well you don't have the coffee a chat with your pals you don't meet your friends and you take away all this positive stuff from you like then you're deprived yeah now that is not a medical virus that you get into your body yeah its lack of calm of situations or or team or something around you and that's why I think that the psychological perspective is so important to see outside of the box it's more like bad has I'm not drinking water yeah and also like are you in a context that encourages drinking water yeah where are you in the bar where it urges you to drink beer are you at home that context will encourage different things yes it's like the view it like pathology is a very bad way of viewing like it's very bad analogy for viewing mental health really it it has some problems I mean I appreciate it because it has been important in the way of digging enticing psychological problems like oh I I should also yeah fair enough but it's a little bit it's it's it's a but it's still like a analogy that is so problematic it's similar to in in software we had these huge problems for many years that people used buildings as an analogy more software development that's what we are called like they call people architects alright and it's so bad like it because software has like the unique property that you can constantly keep changing it a building is like it goes there and if it falls down people die so far it's not like that it's like you can change it multiple times per day and deploy new versions roll that to kabillion people and if something changes like nobody dies it's very rare that you you're building a software like that the metaphors are very powerful yeah as you know and it's like oh we use this metaphor is this leading us astray so to answer the question of burnout Oh someone how to prevent burnout or how to deal with burnout and the first answer the question of dealing with burnout you need to then slowly increase your activities of working so that you're matching the level of difficulty with the level of your resources so instead of like rest thing into it you need to see like okay right now my the difficulty level is too high and you love it maybe just get to work yeah like get up in the morning and be at work say hello to your colleagues and be there for hours yeah like start small be there summer go lunching with colleagues and then expanding expanding expanding like think of burnout as a tough video game where you have to really start at the easiest level and then going all the way up until you are at max level other a common problem is if you are like on medical leave it's like oh I'm burner then I have two weeks where I'm at home and then I get back to work and then you're like full full on again and that's like catastrophic but for me yeah like burnout has been very little related to like I had I'm slowly coming back from a semi burnout situation mmm and I found that like for me like I was not overworked at all like it wasn't like I was basically just I miss my weeks were like procrastinating for four for four days on making a video and then procrastinating even more making it on Sunday and I just didn't want to do it I just wasn't feeling it and for me it was basically just being caught I felt trapped in this prison of my own like I had to like I had an audience that expected some stuff and then I had sponsors expecting some stuff and I started like also thinking like I optimized for like these things and it was just like and it wasn't until I just started going back to just doing whatever the I wanted which took surprisingly long to do because I've gotten I've lost that muscle mmm so for me it was like sitting down extras thinking like what do you actually feel like doing what would be fun because I didn't ask myself that mm-hmm but um good question to like constantly remind you of like what is my rewards yeah like what is meaningful for me what is my positive consequences hello hope you enjoyed that 💛 FUN FUN FUNCTION
Since 2015, Fun Fun Function (FFF) is one of the longest running weekly YouTube shows on programming 🏅 thanks to its consistency and quality reaching 200,000+ developers.
🤦♂️ The Failing Together concept is what makes FFF unique. Most coding content out there focus on step-by-step tutorials. We think tutorials are too far removed from what everyday development is like. Instead, FFF has created a completely new learning environment where we grow from failure, by solving problems while intensively interacting with a live audience.
