About this lesson

Self-esteem can get complicated when you’re AuDHD (autism + ADHD). You can be talented, capable, and even confident in certain areas… and still get hit with sudden spirals of doubt, shame, or “what’s wrong with me?” In this video, I’m sharing what’s actually helped me rebuild my self-esteem as an AuDHD adult—especially after diagnosis, when I started noticing how much masking and internalized ableism were shaping the way I talked to myself. Here’s what we cover: *Why AuDHD self-esteem dips can feel extra confusing (because it’s not “just autism” or “just ADHD”) *How strengths and struggles can exist at the same time (and why that doesn’t make you a fraud) *The reframe I use when I hit a wall: “I can’t do it that way… so what’s a different way in?” *Giving yourself permission to use supports (without the shame spiral) *What to do when you can’t name the feeling (alexithymia + body cues) *Anchoring to what’s true + “resetting” your brain for 20 minutes *Practicing pride (taking the win) instead of “yeah, but…” RESOURCES MENTIONED: Neurodivergent Insights Glossary (alexithymia): https://neurodivergentinsights.com/glossary/alexithymia/ Self-care card deck: https://bookshop.org/a/108800/9781507225066 📰 SUBSTACK: Subscribe for AuDHD workplace insights: https://substack.com/@brettwhitmarsh/posts 💬 Question for you: When your self-esteem drops, what’s the first thought your brain throws at you—and what’s one truth you want to practice returning to? #audhd #adhdbrain #autism #neurodivergent #selfesteem #impostersyndrome #unmasking #alexithymia #autistic Chapters: 00:00 AuDHD + self-esteem 00:51 Why AuDHD 01:48 When strengths and struggles collide 02:38 Imposter syndrome + confidence existing at the same time 03:21 Diagnosis, masking, internalized ableism, and “a different way in” 04:53 Using support without shame 05:45 Naming it 07:20 What is Alexithymia 10:02 Anchoring 11:29 Taking the win 13:32 Layoff perspective 14:17 Resources 💬 Let us know what
