2024 Escaping The Memory Hole 03 Animated Presentation

In Part 3 of the Internet Archive’s Escaping the Memory Hole event, an animated presentation illustrates the fragility of digital culture and the growing risks of link rot, corporate takedowns, and disappearing media. Once-thriving websites—Geocities, Gawker, MTV News, and many more—have vanished, erasing vast amounts of cultural knowledge and history.  Books, music, movies, and journalism face the same fate without active preservation. The Internet Archive has preserved over 800 billion web pages, acting as a time machine for the web and safeguarding our shared memory for future generations. Without efforts like this, more of our cultural heritage would be lost forever.
