The face on the screen was hers. The account was not.

The light was doing what good light always does — forgiving everything, promising nothing had changed.

Lauren stood in the frame of a staged back porch, one hand resting on the arm of a teak lounger, the other loose at her side. The furniture was expensive in the quiet way that didn’t announce itself.
