When Dario Amodei, CEO of one of the world’s most powerful AI labs, sits across from Anderson Cooper on CNN and says, “We do need to raise the alarm,” people tend to listen. And when the alarm is about mass unemployment caused by the very technology his own company is selling, the cognitive dissonance alone is enough to make you pay attention.
Amodei’s claim, first detailed in an Axios interview in May 2025 and reiterated on CNN and later on 60 Minutes, is stark: AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs, pushing unemployment to between 10 and 20 percent within one to five years.
