Is making sort of difficult programs despite not knowing much syntax a good way to learn programming?

I do know the basics and I’ve been learning GUI through our university course. However, sometimes, I do wanna make personal apps and websites, but i feel like I “don’t know enough.” Like, I fear if I jump into a project and just research every step of the way about what I need to do this and that, it would lessen my understanding?
