Two days ago, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.7. The headline numbers are impressive. SWE-bench Verified jumped from 80.8% to 87.6%. Vision resolution tripled. A new /ultrareview command in Claude Code simulates a senior engineer reviewing your code. And on the hardest coding tasks, Opus 4.7 solves 3x more production problems than its predecessor.

But buried beneath the shiny benchmarks is a detail that changes the economics for every developer and company running Claude in production: a new tokenizer that uses up to 35% more tokens for the same text, at the same per-token price. That’s a price increase Anthropic didn’t call a price increase.
