​The London sky was the color of a bruised plum, and the rain was coming down in that annoying, misty way that soaked through your clothes before you even realized it. Sophie Bennett pulled her coat tighter, clutching her leather satchel to her chest.

​"Rubbish weather," she muttered, sidestepping a massive puddle on the University of London’s main quad.

​Sophie was a second-year Literature student who preferred the quiet corners of the Victorian-era library to the rowdy student bars. She liked order. She liked tea. And she liked her schedule. Today, that schedule was being ruined by a broken umbrella and a late bus.
