I asked AI a simple question about a bug during one of our incidents (which seem to be getting more frequent these days).

Suddenly I got a real shock

> _“Nothing, Carol… we love you”_

I am not Carol. I’m not sure I really understand what is going on. Is it some sort of hallucination?

We’re building our systems with thousands of lines of code, and we are reliant on these systems. We are asking how the code works, and yet the systems on which we rely can confidently hallucinate a full solution to a problem you didn’t ask. While being oddly reassuring at the same time.

Ask something slightly unclear?

I’ve been guilty of that a few times. Yet I never expected to get emotional reassurance meant for someone else.

It’s disconcerting because it all _sounds_ convincing. I started to believe my name might be Carol, the AI is that nice.
